Chief Thomas Vaughn is the Republican nominee for Marion County Sheriff and will face Democrat Kelvis Williams in the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
After decades of service — first as a Marion County deputy sheriff and since 2014 as Chief of Police for the Southport Police Department — Vaughn is taking his record of leadership, training, and community focus countywide. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, a certified law enforcement instructor, and a lifelong Marion County resident.
"This race is about who will lead the Sheriff's Office with integrity, support for deputies and civilian staff, and a clear plan on juvenile crime, the jail, and public trust," Vaughn said. "I am ready to earn every vote and to serve every neighborhood in Marion County."
The general election will decide who leads one of the most important public-safety agencies in Central Indiana. Vaughn's campaign is focused on tackling rising juvenile crime, building a safer and smarter jail system, restoring confidence in the Sheriff's Office, and supporting the men and women who wear the badge and staff the agency every day.
